If you’re a busy mom looking to escape the hustle and bustle of mom life in the city, stay tuned. I’m beyond excited to be partnering with Farmhouse Market & Inn, located in the quaint town of New Prague, just 45 minutes from the Twin Cities. The Inn is on the second floor of Farmhouse Market in the heart of downtown. And did you know that Farmhouse Market was featured in the New York Times for its innovative business model?

As a mom, it’s hard to hop on a plane and leave the family behind. But a night or two away by yourself or with your bestie… completely doable!
New Prague is an adorable Czech community rich in culture and arts, which means plenty to do.
The town is undergoing a renaissance with the addition of new businesses, many opened by locals who moved away and have since returned to raise their family close to their hometown roots.
The small town feel with the new updates and shops makes New Prague and Farmhouse Inn THE perfect place for a Twin Cities Mom to get away and relax.
But, how would I even take a momcation?
If you’re already thinking a momcation is an impossible feat because there’s no way your family would survive without you, that probably shows how much you NEED regular momcations in your life.
Momcations aren’t only a chance for you to focus on your health and well-being, it’s also a chance for your family to figure out how to survive without you for a few days. Let those baby birds fly out of the nest, struggle a little, and then watch them take off and soar!
Taking regular momcations helps your family become a little less reliant on all you do for them, and hopefully a lot more appreciative, too!
They say distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I’ve found this is true for everyone in the family when I take time away from them. When I’m back, the kids tell me they miss me, and my husband has a new sense of appreciation for everything I do for the family.
Bottom line – momcations are good for you AND good for your family (although they might not agree before you go, but that’s okay)
What should I bring for a perfect momcation?
If it’s been a while since you’ve traveled without kids, you might not even know what to do with yourself for a few days alone.
If you go to a perfect little spot like New Prague, you’ll have plenty of shops to visit and breweries to try out, but don’t forget this is a time for you to refresh your mind and body and relax.
So, while you’re soaking in the tantrum-free silence of your room, instead of resorting to your phone or binge watching Netflix, here are some things you can bring to make the most of this momcation:
1) Your bestie (or not)
You know the saying, “It takes a village.” Motherhood is all about community and when you find yourself in need of a break from the hustle and bustle, you might just want your best girl by your side along the way. Because sometimes you just need someone to listen. Someone who knows exactly how it feels to try to do all the things and do them well. So call or text your bestie, and get planning today!
2) Favorite indulgences
What’s a momcation without a bit of indulgence. This doesn’t have to mean an elaborate trip to the spa. Pack your favorite mask or skincare treat.
Don’t forget to bring a favorite bottle of wine (remember the bottle opener!) or sweet treat. Because there won’t be anyone to interrupt your enjoyment which is a TRUE indulgence!
3) A guilty pleasure read
As a mom, I never have enough time to read and I definitely don’t prioritize it enough when I’m caught up in the go-go-go of our everyday lives.
But when on a momcation, it’s all about getting caught up in a good book, something you can’t put down and don’t have to.
One more thought… I know I could use a break from the phone and distraction. I love the feeling of a book and the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing a good read.
4) Something cozy
While it’s nice to get away, don’t forget something cozy to remind you of home and allow you to truly appreciate the time away. Whether a favorite pair of slippers, sweats or bathroom, you might as well lounge in comfort. And whether you came alone or with a bestie, no one is judging here.
5) Comfortable shoes
Part of getting away is exploring. No matter where you go or how far from home you venture, it’s fun to feel like a local. New Prague is a charming Czech town less than an hour from the Twin Cities. For a small town, there is plenty to do and no shortage of charm. So pack comfortable shoes and get ready to explore. Suggestions include:
- Daleko Arts, providing professional, Twin Cities-quality theater in a vintage space that has been revitalized
- Giesenbräu Bier Co. is a family-owned and operated brewery with fresh, locally crafted lagers and ales with an emphasis on German tradition
- Lau’s Czech Bakery is a vintage bakery with delicious donuts right across the street from Farmhouse Inn (donuts in close proximity… that’s reason enough to visit!)
- Sugar Rose Bakeshop features gourmet pastries, donuts and bars and a drive through with delicious coffee and tea drinks
- The Ettlin’s Cafe is a Czech cafe with delicious made-from-scratch food
The First Step is Booking It!
I regularly highlight the importance of self-care… of taking care of yourself so you can take care of others. A momcation is the perfect way to do just that. Mom burnout happens to all of us. Making time for yourself is the perfect way to recharge.
No matter what your budget or schedule, there is a way to fit your own momcation into the schedule, but it won’t happen if you don’t get it on the books. So take action and start planning your own momcation! Message your best mom-friend, talk to your spouse, pick a date, and start creating your own vision of what your perfect momcation will look like (try searching Airbnb’s in your area, or check out Farmhouse Inn’s availability!)
Just imagine how refreshed and recharge you’ll feel once you get back. Who knows what you might be able to conquer once you’ve recharged from your momcation! I would LOVE to know – what would your perfect momcation look like? Comment below!
