FEATURED
DRIVEN MAMA
OF THE MONTH

February

Living your best driven mama life is all about finding what works best for you in your life, but we know how helpful it can be to get ideas and inspiration from other mamas going through a similar time in their life. This is why we created the Featured Driven Mama of the Month!

Hey mama! I’m so excited for you to read this month’s Featured Mama of the Month! I often hear moms talk about how they would love to be able to pursue their passion while still being with their kids during the day, and Tiana has brought her own dream of this to life! It’s fun to see a different take on “driven mama” life from a mom who works from home while also balancing life as a mom.

Of course, I have to give a shout out to her comment about getting to cycle class! (girl after my own heart!) And I especially love that she has found her support team to help her out and allow her a break when she needs it most. We do not have to take it all on to be successful mamas, and getting that much needed support to delegate out is key! Nice job, Tiana!

I hope you enjoy Tiana’s interview as much as I did!

xoxo,

Jen

Tell Us About Yourself

I am a mum to a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son. So life gets pretty crazy around our house most days. I own Wavelength Creative Agency which is a social media management company. So I work with owners of small businesses to get them better exposure on social media which helps them increase their profits.

What are you insanely passionate about?

I love when I’m creating something. Either welding, sewing or designing on the computer, it brings me so much satisfaction seeing my ideas becoming realized. And being able to put that to work in my business is very fulfilling!

Our mamas love to hear about Daily Routines.
Tell us About Yours.

Most days I’m up around 6:30 and the first thing I have to do is make myself tea. Then I sit down and check my emails and reply to anything that’s urgent. Then I make breakfast for my kids, while they eat I sit at the kitchen table and start working on designs. After breakfast is done I play with the kids/clean/make snacks until 11:30-12. Then the kids go down for a nap and I work or take online courses. The kids wake up between 1-1:30. Then I make lunch and I check my emails while the kids eat. The kids play or watch a movie in the afternoon while I design/write and I spend a little bit of time on my personal business social media. Then my husband gets home between 4:30-5 so I make dinner. The kids go to bed at 7 and depending on how tired I am I either work in the evening or relax with a glass of wine. And I’m off to bed around 10. Some days I add in running errands, sales calls or just getting out of the house for a change of scenery, depending on what the week is like.

Let's Talk about Self-Care...

How do you define "self-care" in your life?

Doing something to refresh and rejuvenate myself. Especially since I’m always trying to put someone else’s ideas/personality into a design I need something that allows me to rest my mind.

What are your favorite self-care activities?

Having a glass of wine with friends is my #1 form of self-care. I also love going to a coffee shop and grabbing a tea for a little alone time. Having a hot bath with essential oils and reading a book. Or my husband and I will go out for dinner/appies to have some kid-free time.

How do you find balance in your life?

I love writing everything down on paper to organize what needs to be done. I have a day planner to write out everything that I need to do that day/week and then figure out how to most effectively get everything done. Most days I try to set aside a certain amount of time to work and clean, but once in a while when I notice my kids get a bit antsier I set aside the whole day to spend time with them. I try to get as much done at the beginning of the week so if something unexpected comes up I’m free to deal with it.

Let's Talk About Mom Life...

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

I love the unconditional love you experience from your kids. No matter how down I’m feeling, having them run up and give me a hug and kiss always makes me feel better.

How do you make your kids part of your "Driven Mama Life"?

A lot of the time I spend working is with one or both of them on my lap. So I get their input on what I’m doing (although they always seem to agree with my design ideas). And I hope that as they see me doing what I love, it will motivate them to pursue what they love as well.

Do you Ever experience "mom-guilt"?

Of Course

How do you Deal with it?

Look at all the things you’re doing right. When I’m feeling especially bad I get down on the floor with my kids and play and laugh with them. It helps me get rid of the guilt.

Our mamas are always asking for family-friendly recipes. What's your favorite one?

How about your favorite way to stay active as a busy Mom?

Cycling classes at the gym. I can’t say that I love it while I’m in the middle of the intense leg burn, but I love how I feel when I go regularly.

Let's Talk About Your Driven Mama Life...

What is your favorite tool to help you manage a busy life?

I love Trello to keep tasks organized. Hootesuite to keep my business scheduled and simplified. And PayPal Business to keep invoicing simple (because who wants to spend all day writing up invoices).

Sometimes we all need to get help at times. What do you delegate in your work and life?

I like to think that I can do everything myself but that doesn’t always work out. So once or twice a week I get my mother-in-law or a friend to watch my kids for a few hours to have some distraction-free work time. And my husband is great with making dinner or getting the kids out of the house when I’m really busy.

WHat is Your best piece of advice to the driven mama reading this right now?

You know what is best for your family. A lot of people will give you advice or even judge the decisions you are making, but don’t let it get to you. Do what’s best for you and your kids and don’t feel like you need to explain yourself to anyone.

Let's Have a Little Fun...

If you had an extra 15-minutes in your day, what would you do with it?

Go for a run….or have a glass of wine, depending on the day.

If you had an extra $5,000 to spend, how would you spend it?

Go to Bali with my husband!

What is one thing making you so happy right now?

Watching my kids’ personalities and senses of humor develop (Even though they inherited my sass).
