What does this look like… for me, it started with a Foot Peel Mask
Have you heard of these? I saw a friend post about it on Instagram, had heard great things and was intrigued. So I placed an order and of course had to get one for my husband too. After winter, my feet were in rough shape and I wanted to do something to take care of myself. AND it really did live up to the hype. While not as instantaneous as I would have liked, I loved that it left my feet feeling soft and ready for summer.
After using the foot peel mask for the first time, we also did a charcoal mask and it just kind of became a thing. Once a week, we would go to bed early, apply the mask, and read while it dried. My skin feels better and I love the routine of this weekly habit. I especially love that it is something my husband looks forward to this ritual as much as I do.
My weekly spa night has made me more cognizant of how I care for my skin. No matter what the goal, reducing fine lines, enhancing brightness, or just taking care of the body’s biggest organ, I’m excited to share four ways to show your skin you care, while also taking care of yourself.
1. Pro skincare tip: Don’t forget the SPF.
Sometimes it’s best to start with the simplest and most important way to show your skin you care… protect it from the elements. Now that warmer weather and sunshine are here, you will likely find yourself spending more time outside. I know I send my girls outside every time they mention being bored and that also means I’m outside too.
Ideally, I apply some form of SPF every day. I’m not perfect and there are definitely days where I need to remember to reapply, but you have to start somewhere. It’s about creating a new routine and developing that routine when there isn’t a need to get ready to go each day is a bit more challenging. But I’m working on it.
2. Pro skincare tip: Find a routine you love.
This is my current focus… finding a routine that works for me and the products that fit that routine too. While I’ve always been relatively low maintenance when it comes to skincare and products, I know skincare is important. So I’m taking small steps that I can build upon. The first step was finding a new cleanser and from there, a few serums to help improve the tone of my skin. The good news… I’m loving the products (Beautycounter, in case you were wondering) AND they make me more excited to care for my skin each day.
3. Pro skincare tip: Do something extra.
A daily routine is important because it helps you care for your skin over time. But it’s also fun to spice it up and try something new. Perhaps you have been intrigued by a new tool like this Jade Roller
Or want to try out one of these Julep Triple Quench Deep Hydration Sheet Mask Systems
It’s time to add something new to your daily routine… now is the time to try!
I love the routine of a weekly mask. It feels extra and special, without being time-consuming. It allows me a bit of self-care in this crazy world. And sometimes, it’s the something extra that keeps you going. It gives me something to look forward to and inspires me to find other ways to care for myself.
4. Pro skincare tip: Do what works for you.
The best part about skincare is there is no right answer. We all have different goals and priorities. Skincare may not be top of the list right now, so do what works for you.
Maybe that is the simple act of washing your face twice a day.
Or perhaps it means focusing on something that needs attention like fine lines.
Consider your priorities and do what works. Because showing your skin you care is also about showing care for yourself. This is not a time for added pressure. So you do you.
I’m excited about the routine I’ve developed and know there is room for improvement. But you have to start somewhere and that means showing your skin you care in a way that works for you… today AND tomorrow.
