Alright, that’s it, I’m just going to come out and say it…
New Year’s Resolutions are DUMB.
What?! Did I just say that? Yeah I did.
Okay, maybe not ALL New Year’s Resolutions, but most of them are dumb. Which is why most people are fully aware they probably won’t follow through when they set it. Honestly, what’s the point?!
If you’re going to set a New Year’s Resolution, do it the right way. Here’s 3 quick things to check to make sure your resolution won’t stay behind with the rest of 2017:
1. Make sure it’s for YOU
Don’t make a resolution because someone has been nagging you about doing something or because everyone else is doing it. Make sure the resolution you make for yourself is for YOU, not anyone else.
2. Know WHY you’re doing it
If you ask yourself why you’re making something your resolution and you’re answer is, “I don’t know”, then it’s probably not the right resolution for you. Your answer doesn’t need to make you cry, but it should stir up a little emotion inside of you. When you can emotionally connect with your resolution, you’re more likely to stick with it when the idea starts to lose it’s “shiny appearance”, or you have to put in some work to achieve it.
3. If it’s not a “HECK YES”, then don’t do it
Once you connect with the emotional reason as to WHY you want to achieve your resolution, it should spark some serious excitement inside of you, also knows as “self-motivation”. If you’re resolution doesn’t excite you enough to motivate you to work for it, it’s definitely never going to happen.
